JPDO Launches Updates to NextGen Foundational Documents and JPE
Sep 30, 2009
With the summer now behind us and a busy October rolling in, the JPDO is happy to announce the release of the revised NextGen Integrated Work Plan (IWP) and Enterprise Architecture (EA), along with significant enhancements to the Joint Planning Environment (JPE). NextGen Integrated Work Plan FY12 The IWP and many of the planning elements have matured since the last release of the NextGen IWP. Over 400 comments were addressed using the JPDO’s Configuration Management process and are now incorporated, as adjudicated, into the IWP version FY12. The main sources of change include: deferred comments from previous releases of the IWP; comments submitted during the 2009 open commenting period; comments related to improvements and enabling solutions identified in the JPDO Aircraft Working Group Avionics Roadmap; updates to Policy Initiatives completion dates; and changes identified during this year’s data validation efforts with Federal partner agencies. The JPDO worked collaboratively with the NextGen partners and aviation professionals from the JPDO Working Groups to adjudicate the comments and proposed changes. The IWP version FY12 also represents the reorganization of the planning elements around the NextGen capabilities. To access the IWP FY12 Executive Summary, click here. NextGen Enterprise Architecture FY12 The focus for the EA FY12 development was the continued expansion and definition of architectural artifacts related to key mission segment areas developed in the FY11 architecture, specifically weather and surveillance. These updates include expanded operational views describing the future curb-to-curb operations of NextGen and enterprise system views that detail high-level system functionality and interactions that are necessary to support the future environment. The FY12 release includes draft operational scenarios and corresponding use cases that will provide stakeholders a means to understand and analyze future NextGen capabilities. The scenarios and use cases validate and enhance the Concept of Operations, EA, and IWP, and will form the basis for developing NextGen EA Business Process Diagrams. Both the IWP and EA are available through the Joint Planning Environment (JPE). New JPE Enhancements The JPDO recently enhanced the JPE with updates that provide fast access to critical information and an enhanced user experience, along with a new look and feel. You can access a quick tutorial that describes these recent enhancements by visiting the JPE, and clicking the “JPE Redesign” banner on the left side of the screen.
