‘Information Exchange’ Symposium To Feature Key Government/Industry Information Technology Officials

The Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA, DC Chapter), will host a symposium on Information Exchange in the context of the Congressionally-mandated Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) initiative. This significant event—Beyond SOA & Cloud: Next Generation Information Exchange in High Consequence Environments—will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Hilton Washington, Washington, DC. Keynote addresses will be provided by Aneesh Paul Chopra, Federal Chief Technology Officer, White House Office of Science & Technology Policy; Michael T. Jones, Chief Technology Advocate, Google, Inc.; Bran Ferren, Co-Chairman, Applied Minds, Inc.; and Bart Johnson, Acting Under Secretary for Intelligence & Analysis and Chief Intelligence Officer, U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Aneesh Chopra, holder of a B.A. degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, is the first to hold his position at the White House. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 7, 2009. He previously served as Virginia’s Secretary of Technology and before that as Managing Director for the Advisory Board Company, a health care think tank for hospitals and healthy systems, where he led the firm’s Financial Leadership Council and the Working Council for Health Plan Executives. President Obama tasked the native of Trenton, New Jersey, “to promote technology innovation to help the country meet its goals such as job creation, reducing health care costs, and protecting the homeland.” Michael T. Jones is charged with advancing the technology to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. He travels the globe to meet and speak with governments, businesses, partners, and customers to advance Google's mission and technology. He previously was Chief Technologist of Google Maps, Earth, and Local Search—the teams responsible for providing location intelligence and information in global context to users worldwide. The San Diego native has worked for several companies including as Chief Technology Officer for Keyhole Corporation, the company that developed the technology used today in Google Earth, before it was acquired by Google, Inc. Bran Ferren is co-founder of Applied Minds, Inc., and is an American designer of movie and theater special effects. He is the former president of research and development of Walt Disney Imagineering, as well as co-founder of Associates and Ferren, a visual effects company that supplied visual effects for the movie "Star Trek V." Bart Johnson is the principal deputy undersecretary for intelligence and analysis. He is a former colonel with the New York State Police and has been working in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. All in the JPDO community are encouraged to attend this symposium to gain insight through these keynote addresses as well as panel discussions involving speakers who are government and industry innovators in policy, governance, and acquisition practices from various organizations sharing and discussing their experiences in making Information Exchange work, the challenges they face, and what government and industry must do together to enable NextGen Information Exchange.
